An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.

The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his family member alerted the authorities about his suspicions.

She explained the defendant went on to play the "candy game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement once more.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
